Hedvig’s little sister, a small and beautiful creature, has now moved in with us. In appearance, she closely resembles her father. Sweet as sugar, she’s won over a few judges in the show ring. Here at home, other things tend to fall in her path. You’d think she’s related to Astrid Lindgren’s Emil in Lönneberga—she’s a master at trying the most impossible things.
Lady is a scent dog; she smells like perfume, always wonderfully fragrant, as if she has perfume on her head. The scent is especially strong when she’s content. This trait exists in certain breeding lines, and I’m thrilled to be able to pass it on in my breeding work.

We made it just in time, right before our neighboring country, Norway, decided to ban the breeding of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, to get a breeding bitch from the Norwegian kennel Pecassa’s. I’m grateful that I was entrusted by Nina, who has long worked with dedication to breed healthy Cavaliers. Miffi will now be one of Pecassa’s last Cavalier puppies, and the plan is that through her, we can introduce a few more healthy genes into Opperfjäll’s breeding program.

On a few occasions, I’ve attended the Cavalier Society’s specialty show in Piteå, where I took notice of Jablen’s beautiful Cavaliers. You can always dream, and sometimes those dreams come true. So here we now have our little Jablen girl, from parents with heart scans clear of mitral valve disease (MVD).
Hedvig is always happy. She wags enthusiastically, not just with her tail but with her whole body, ready for any adventure. She joins us in just about everything. Right now, she and I are having fun with scent detection. It’s so enjoyable—the hardest part is learning to trust that the dog is right!
